The Event of the Year is Officially Back!

We are excited to share that the CanGOLF Local's Xmas Party is officially back for another year. If you're looking for things to do in Canmore this Christmas, you can't miss this event.

If you’re from Canmore, you know that locals come together every year on December 23rd to celebrate the holidays. After an unforgettable event last year, we’re excited to announce that we’re opening our doors to locals (new and lifelong) to kick off the holiday season right.

The event will take place on December 23rd from 6pm to late. There will be a live DJ, drink specials, free arcade games, and a whole lot more.

Kids are welcome before 9 pm, and everyone is invited, whether you’ve been in the Valley for three weeks or 30 years! Feel free to book a simulator and hit some balls before you head up to the party, or grab a bite to eat and a couple of drinks before you get to dancing. There are arcade-style games to be played, drinks to be had, and some serious catching up to do with the people of the Bow Valley!

Entry is free from 6pm to 9pm. After 9pm, there will be a door charge of $10. The party will be held in our upper-floor event venue. If you want to have a couple of drinks downstairs or use the golf simulators, the downstairs sports bar is free entry, like usual.

Meet Matthew Foti, CanGOLF's In-House Pro

When it comes to golf, Matthew Foti has a unique journey. Originally from Ottawa, Matthew first fell in love with the Bow Valley’s lifestyle through ski racing, a sport he grew up with. “Once I came out here and skied, I realized how beautiful it is, and how active everyone is here,” he explains. “It’s that outdoor lifestyle that really attracted me.” Now, a few years later, Matthew’s fully immersed in life out west and spending his time helping people up their golf game.

Matthew’s path into golf isn’t your typical pro’s journey. He didn’t grow up immersed in the sport but reconnected with it during COVID in 2020, like many others searching for outdoor activities when most things shut down. “Golf was one of the few things we could do, and it just reignited my interest,” he says. This newfound passion led him to enroll in Humber’s Golf Management Program, from which he graduated in 2024. After a co-op at the Chateau Whistler Golf Course, he joined the team at Banff Springs in 2023 as a teaching professional.

Unlike many golf pros, Matthew didn’t have an elite level of play handed to him through years of early training. “A lot of pros grew up golfing and have been at a high level for so long that their swing is second nature,” he explains. “For me, I only started golfing again in 2020. I had to work through each hurdle myself, which is where my analytical side really came into play.” This hands-on approach is what helps Matthew connect with his students: he knows what it’s like to face struggles on the course.

Teaching Philosophy

When it comes to coaching, Matthew takes a technical, practical approach. “A lot of people are making changes in their swing without understanding the repercussions,” he says. “As a coach, my goal is to not only show them what needs to change but explain why it will help.” For him, it’s important that his students understand the impact of their adjustments so that the lessons stick. “If I just say, ‘do this,’ without explaining why, they’ll go back to what they were doing as soon as it doesn’t immediately click. But when they know the ‘why,’ they’re more likely to stick with it.”

He uses video analysis to help students see what’s happening in their swing. “It’s one thing to tell them, but when they can see it for themselves, it really sinks in.” This approach not only saves time but makes sure that his students leave with a solid understanding of their swing and what they need to work on.

Life Outside of Golf

Matthew’s life isn’t all golf, though it’s a big part of it. When he’s not on the green, he and his girlfriend spend time exploring the outdoor playground that is the Bow Valley. “We’re into hiking and a bit of backpacking, and we’re both big on skiing too.” Living an active lifestyle and prioritizing mental and physical health are values he shares with his clients and students. “Feeling good physically just puts you in a better mental space,” he adds. “For me, it’s about making the right choices to feel the benefits of staying active and healthy.”

CanGOLF is seeking a Digital Content Creator contractor to join our team for the summer. We are committed to creating engaging promotional materials that capture the essence of the CanGOLF experience, showcasing fun and lively moments that resonate with our audience.

Role and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to produce high-quality photos, videos, and video clips for promotional materials, social media, and other marketing channels.
Attend and capture key events, high-traffic times, and busy moments at CanGOLF.
Arrange and conduct simple photo and video shoots as required.
Capture b-roll, food, and brand footage and imagery during downtime to build a diverse content library.
Edit photos to ensure they are clean and in the proper format; trim and organize video footage as needed. Only light edits are mandatory.
Work with the team to identify weekly and monthly content checklists, and contribute additional creative content ideas.

We want to talk about how we came to be known as the spot to get the best burger in Canmore. Well, actually, the best burger in the Bow Valley according to TripAdvisor. If you’ve ever taken a journey through CanGOLF’s reviews on Google or TripAdvisor, you might have noticed a bit of a theme. Here’s what we mean:

“If you want to experience one of the greatest burgers of your life, stop at CanGOLFl. So tasty! The fries are also crunchy and full of flavours.”

“Best Hamburger ever! Thanks from Montreal After 14 days work, it’s paradise with the view of the Mountains, it’s simply perfect.”

“Wonderful burger! And the waitress was super friendly. Nice place to grab a quick dinner. The view of the Mountains was beautiful.”

“We played on the golf simulators as a family, and it was so much fun! Dinner was delicious as always! The Crush Burger is my favourite burger ever! Can't wait to come back.”

“We ate here 2 of our 4 nights in Canmore - the food was that good! I had the chicken club sandwich, and my husband had the crush burger - delicious!”

You see what we mean? While we can’t take credit for the beautiful mountain views that Canmore has to offer, we sure can throw a feather in our caps for our fan-favourite burgers. A staple on the CanGOLF menu is our Crush Burger, but it stands among some other hard-hitters like our Fried Chicken Club and Korean Chicken Sandwich. To give you a little peek behind the curtain on the thinking behind these hand-held creations, we asked our Executive Chef, Dallas Suttie, to weigh in.

“The Crush burger is modelled after the classic California Smash Burger,” Dallas explained. “Flat top seared to keep all those juices in, fresh lettuce, onion & tomato, homemade bacon, house-made pickles, and the smoked tomato aioli as our signature burger sauce.” Dallas told us that “landing in California for me was always met by an immediate trip to arguably one of the best burgers out there at In & Out Burger.” So, there you have it, that’s the Crush Burger, folks.

Next up, the Fried Chicken Club. “The fried chicken club just comes from my love southern style fried chicken,” said Suttie. “Buttermilk marinated chicken, breaded, fried until crispy perfection, add some bacon, cheese and some groceries and you have a delicious chicken sandwich that really allows the chicken to speak for itself. The joke is that our burger is very good, but it may not even be the best sandwich on the menu.” We’re not exactly making it easy for you to decide what to order, are we?

Last but absolutely not least is the Korean Chicken Sandwich. “When you already have great fried chicken in-house, why not add some Korean influence?” said Suttie. “The use of Gochujang (fermented bean and chili paste) as a sauce to coat our fried chicken is such a great flavour profile as it covers the gauntlet of flavour: sweet, spicy, tangy, umami & a tiny but funky.” It doesn’t stop there. “Add some sweet roasted carrots, fresh white onions, napa cabbage slaw and you have a sandwich that hits all the spots. This may be one of my personal favourite items I have ever put on a menu.”

A newer business in town, ÉpiCanmore is a bakery and cafe that offers amazing crepes, organic sourdough bread, specialty coffee, sandwiches, parties, and more. It’s the perfect place to grab breakfast or lunch, catchup with friends, or enjoy a solo date in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everything here is cooked and baked on-site, so you better believe it’s as fresh as it gets.

Wild Life Distillery

If you’re a fan of amazing cocktails, you will be doing yourself a favour by popping into the Wild Life Distillery tasting room. Wild Life is an awesome local distillery that produces unbeatable gin, vodka, whisky, and more. They’ve got canned cocktails that you can grab on the go and fresh, creative drinks if you have some time to pull up a stool. They have two locations in Canmore, one production facility and then their tasting room. You can book a distillery tour at the production facility or visit the tasting room for a drink at 105 Bow Meadows Crescent. This place has an immaculate vibe. It’s welcoming and cozy and perfect for winding down after your next Rocky Mountain adventure.

Brigette Bar

Brigette Bar is a new addition to the Canmore food and beverage scene. It’s located at 1030 Spring Creek Drive, and you might recognize the name from its super-popular Calgary location. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed and extremely chic. The menu is filled with amazing share plates and dishes of various sizes, and their cocktails are to die for. We suggest ordering as many dishes as possible to share, because you’re going to want to sample as much of that menu as possible. They’ve got a great happy hour deal from 2-5pm daily and a lovely patio that you should try and enjoy before winter.

Sheep Dog Brewing

Sheep Dog is one of the most comfortable and inviting hangout spots in town. The local brewery has a huge roster of creative beers for you to sample along with some delicious snacks. The downstairs portion of the brewery is open during the summer months, with big garage doors that open to the patio. You’re welcome to bring your pup with you while the main floor is open. In the winter, the upstairs is the main event. It’s cozy and homey and a great place to hangout with friends. We suggest getting a flight so you can sample as many of their creations as possible. Also located at 105 Bow Meadows Crescent, Sheepdog is just on the opposite side of the building from Wild Life.

Take a Hike Market

This awesome destination is a cafe and market located in Solara Resort and Spa in Canmore. You’ll find a market with amazing culinary products, a cafe with delicious plates and beverages, and an array of eats to grab on the go. It’s the perfect place to stop for a bite, no matter if you’re looking to sit down, grab and go, or elevate something you’re already cooking for yourself. The food at the cafe includes breakfast options, lunch, and tons of coffee drinks and other warm and cold beverages. The food feels wildly fancy but without that fine-dining pricetag or long wait times. The atmosphere is super trendy and inviting, and it’s the perfect place to wind down or wind up before or after your next adventure.

Rocket Pie Pizza

If you’re craving pizza, you are going to love Rocket Pie . Located in the Shops of Canmore, this casual Italian restaurant serves up some of the best pizzas, calzones, meatballs, and lasagna that this town has to offer. Grab a beer or glass of wine to go with your meal and you simply can’t go wrong. Their take-out is a perfect option for you next night in, but the vibe of the restaurant is worth experiencing for yourself.

CanGOLF Fall Golf Leagues: What You Need to Know

Fall leagues are almost here, don't forget to register your team!

We don’t believe in an off-season here at CanGOLF. When the courses close, League season begins. First up is our Fall League, kicking off on October 9, 10, and 11 and running through to the end of November.

Seasons run for eight weeks on Monday-Tues-Wed nights between 6-8 pm or 8-10 pm and are open to everyone. Prizes are handed out weekly, including the Big, Week 8 Finals. We want to stress the fact that these leagues are truly open to everyone. While there is some friendly competition, the environment is welcoming, inclusive, and tons of fun. Whether you're just getting into golf or you spend a big chunk of your summers on the green, you're more than welcome here.

It’s $1,200 + GST to register a team. Up to six members can be on each team, but only four will play per night. Once you’ve paid to register your team, your spot will be reserved, and we will be in touch to organize the day and time you will play. Feel free to shoot us an email with your prefered timeslot (6pm or 8pm) and day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday) if you've got your eye on a speific time.

We can't wait to fire leagues back up for the season and we hope you'll join in on the fun!

When Fall Leagues finish up, Winter Leagues jump into action. Winter Leagues will run Jan 8, 9, and 10 to Feb 26, 27, and 28. Spring Leagues will run Mar 11, 12, and 13 to Apr 29, 30, and May 1.
